Lorem ipsum generator
The Lorem ipsum generator creates any amount of filler text to fill up design mockups, website templates, presentations or print layouts before your real content is ready. Set the number of paragraphs, click Generate and copy the result with one button. Everything runs directly in your browser.
How the Lorem ipsum generator works
Lorem ipsum is the classic placeholder text used in graphic design and typesetting for decades. It comes from a scrambled passage of a Latin work by Cicero, but it carries no meaningful content — it is "greeking" whose only job is to fill space and show how future text will look in terms of length, rhythm and line breaks.
This tool is simple: it has a built-in pool of classic lorem-ipsum words (lorem, ipsum, dolor, sit, amet, consectetur…) and randomly assembles them into sentences and paragraphs. Each sentence has 8 to 17 words, starts with a capital letter and ends with a period. Each paragraph contains 4 to 7 sentences. You choose the number of paragraphs (1 to 50). Because the text is drawn at random, every click gives you a slightly different variant.
Input: number of paragraphs (a number). Output: a ready block of filler text you can copy. Nothing is sent anywhere — generation happens locally on your device.
How to use the Lorem ipsum generator
- In the Number of paragraphs field, enter how many paragraphs you need (e.g. 3).
- Click the Generate button. The text appears instantly in the field below.
- Not happy with the length or want a different variant? Change the number and click again — a new random text is produced every time.
- Click Copy and paste the text (Ctrl/Cmd + V) into your design, template or document.
Example:
| Input | Output (shortened) |
|---|---|
| 2 paragraphs | "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur adipiscing elit… (4–7 sentences) \n\n Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit… (another paragraph)" |
Paragraphs are always separated by a blank line, so you can drop the result straight into a text editor or HTML.
What Lorem ipsum is good for
Filler text is mainly used by graphic designers, web designers, typesetters and developers. Typical scenarios:
- Design mockups and wireframes — fill the space reserved for future copy and focus on layout, typography and hierarchy rather than content.
- Website and e-shop templates — test how a page behaves with varying lengths of labels, headings and paragraphs.
- Presentations and print — quickly populate a flyer, brochure or slide draft before the final copy arrives.
- Development and testing — fill a database or components with sample data and check overflow, truncation and wrapping.
Tip: for headings use just the first few words of one paragraph; for longer blocks generate several paragraphs at once. Because everything runs locally in your browser, you can use the tool offline and no text ever leaves your device — handy when you are working with sensitive designs.
FAQ
What does "Lorem ipsum" mean?
It is a garbled Latin passage derived from Cicero that serves only as blind filler text. The individual words carry no meaningful content — it is the standard "placeholder" in design and typesetting.
Why use dummy text instead of real content?
So that the reader and client judge the look and layout, not the content. Readable text would pull attention toward the meaning of sentences instead of typography and layout.
How much text can I generate?
You can request 1 to 50 paragraphs at once. Each paragraph has 4 to 7 sentences and each sentence 8 to 17 words, so even a few paragraphs cover a typical design page.
Will the text be the same every time?
No. Sentences and words are drawn at random, so every click on Generate creates a new variant — even for the same number of paragraphs.
Is the text sent to a server?
No. Generation happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded and the tool works even without an internet connection.
Can I use the text commercially?
Yes. Lorem ipsum is common filler text with no licensing restrictions. Always replace it with real content before publishing, though — on its own it communicates nothing.
Can I generate just one sentence or a few words?
The tool generates by paragraph. For shorter text, generate one paragraph and use only its beginning — for example the first few words as a sample heading.
Is the Latin grammatically correct?
No, and it is not meant to be. The words are assembled at random and the text is deliberately meaningless. It serves purely as visual filler, not as readable Latin.
